HGV levy rates rose from 1 April 2026. The cost depends on the vehicle's revenue weight and emissions class, so a mixed fleet should not be budgeted at one flat figure.

The current Euro VI bands

For Euro VI or later vehicles, the annual rates are £161 for 12 to 31 tonnes, £387 above 31 tonnes up to 38 tonnes, and £619 above 38 tonnes. Euro V and older vehicles pay more in each band.

How payment works

UK-registered vehicles normally pay the levy alongside Vehicle Excise Duty, either annually or every six months. Enforcement teams can check the levy database, so confirmation records should be easy for fleet administration to retrieve.

Use the change in quoting

Small annual changes become meaningful across a fleet and should sit inside standing cost calculations. Rate reviews are also a good point to check the recorded weight and Euro class of every vehicle.

Keeping the levy visible as its own cost line makes later reviews easier. It allows a quote or route-cost model to be updated without disturbing assumptions for tax, fuel, maintenance or driver time.

  • Update cost-per-day and cost-per-mile models
  • Separate levy, VED, fuel and maintenance assumptions
  • Keep vehicle records aligned with the levy band used
